My boyfriend is an unashamed hoarder. It drives me nuts. From his extensive hip flask collection to his love of old books, our little flat is bursting at the seams with what I see as junk. Junk that he refuses to get rid of. However when valuemystuff.com offered me a couple of free valuations, I decided to try and find out whether or not any of this crap was actually worth any money.
After investigating the website I was pretty impressed. All you need to do is upload a few photos of an item you want valued and ping it over to them. It really is that easy. They come back to you within 48 hours (quick right?) with the value of your goods. Not a bad little service.
I dug out an original 1889 copy of Through The Looking Glass that my boyfriend had been wanting to get valued for a while. I took a couple of photos and sent them over. Not really thinking they would get back to me that quickly....
I received a valuation the next night. A proper one. The book wasn't worth that much (£25-35) but the actual service was great. Hasn't everyone got stuff lying around the house that they have often thought might be worth some cash? Stuff collecting dust somewhere because the actual cost and hassle of getting it properly valued is just too much of a pain in the ass? Because if you have then this is definitely the service for you.
The customer service is pretty impressive as well. I emailed over a query after I received my valuation at 6pm, not expecting a response until the next day. However I got my query responded to and solved by 9pm that night. I LOVE good customer service. Good customer service totally does it for me.
It's pretty cheap too at £7.50 for one valuation, £19.99 for three and £59.99 for ten. Bare in mind you would pay a great deal more than that to use a company like Sotheby's or Christie's (and all their experts have worked for those companies or similar).
The valuation comes with everything you need too. I received a report, a proper valuation certificate (which most buyers will require if you decide to sell your item) and even an ebay seal code to prove that your item is the genuine article should you decide to stick it on ebay.
I had wanted to do a couple more valuations before I blogged about these guys as they credited me with three valuations. But a baby with a virus she just can't kick and a broken camera meant I was taking ages to get on with it so I just decided to stick my review up sooner rather than later. But I still have a rare stamp collection (I know, but he's MY geek) and an original painting stored miles away that I will definitely be getting valued soon.
My advice? Don't waste your time and money on items you aren't sure are worth anything or not. Get on this website and get your stuff valued that way. Its SO EASY and you never know - you might be sitting on a little goldmine!
I even considered seeing what this was worth.....
But in the end I decided it had too much sentimental value.

Don't you slag off stamp collectors.... I used to collect stamps too. Gutted I have no idea where my stamps went now...
I would love that copy of Through the Looking Glass..
Looks like a good service, much easier than going somewhere to get it valued!
